The Power of Play
In this blog post, we want to explore the transformative power of play-based learning and explain how it can enrich a child’s development, enhance social interactions, and lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
What is play?
Play is a child’s innate desire to explore and make sense of one's environment. It includes any activity that captures a child's interest, is freely chosen, and, most of all, enjoyed.
During play, children experiment with the world around them, test boundaries, develop social skills, and engage in problem-solving. It engages them mentally, physically and emotionally, making play a powerful tool for learning.
Play naturally nurtures our school's core values: Respect, Curiosity, and Resilience.
Types of play
Child-led: This play allows children to take the lead in their own development, promoting creativity, independence, and critical thinking.
Adult-led: Adult-led play also offers valuable benefits for children's learning and development. While child-led play promotes independence, adult-led play provides structure and guidance that can help children build specific skills in a more focused way.
What does this look like?
The posters below highlight the key aspects of play and highlight its powerful effects on child development and how the teachers working with your children support this.
