The House System at BISS

Choosing the right school for your child involves considering various aspects of their educational experience, including how a school fosters a sense of community and encourages personal growth. One of the tools we use at BISS is the House System, which plays a pivotal role in celebrating student achievements and fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.

We celebrate and recognize students in diverse ways. The House System encourages children to challenge themselves, demonstrate leadership, learn new skills, and enjoy the process. This system promotes inclusivity by bringing together students from various cultural backgrounds and age groups, and fostering a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie. The diverse student body collaborates on various activities, creating a rich, multicultural learning environment.

One of the standout benefits of the House System is the development of strong connections across different year groups. Events and activities organized by house captains, like Tag Rugby, Softball, chess, and gymnastics, provide opportunities for older students to mentor younger ones. This cross-age interaction helps build a supportive community where students learn to respect and support each other, regardless of age.

The House System also enhances interaction between students and teachers beyond the traditional classroom setting. Teachers participate in house events, fostering closer relationships with students. This interaction helps students feel more comfortable and supported, enhancing their overall school experience. Knowing they have the support of their teachers in both academic and extracurricular activities can significantly boost students' confidence and motivation.

The variety of events organized within the House System, such as Drama, gymnastics, and even kanelbullar (cinnamon bun) day, ensures that there is something for everyone. These activities encourage students to explore new interests and develop a wide range of skills. Participation is highly valued and rewarded, with house points awarded for demonstrating kindness, good behavior, participation, and leadership. These points contribute to half-termly rewards, motivating students to consistently put forth their best effort.

The House System not only celebrates academic and extracurricular achievements but also emphasizes the importance of everyday acts of kindness and leadership. This holistic approach to education ensures that students are recognized for their contributions both inside and outside the classroom, reinforcing positive behavior and community values.
