Transitioning from BISS to Swedish gymnasium, Part 3

As an international school in Sweden, we like to keep our parents informed on their options should they wish for their children to attend a Swedish gymnasium once they are 16-18 years old. Who better to give us real insight into this transition from BISS to a Swedish school than our own students who've done so? We recently reached out to former student Lily Larson, who was happy to let us know her experience:

Which gymnasium do you now attend?

Östra Real

How did IGCSEs prepare you for Gymnasium?

IGCSEs prepared me a lot, because I've noticed that I've learned more than the other people in my gymnasium class. For example, I know all of the maths already, which is very nice for me. Also, I feel ahead in science and other subjects. The hard part was switching everything from English to Swedish, so I had to relearn all the keywords and terms. But other than that, I understand everything a little bit more than the other students.

What do you miss about BISS?

I do miss my class and the teachers. I think the teachers are very good and they really help. Since the school was smaller, every individual student got the help that they needed, which is a little bit different at my current school. At gymnasium, you have to take care of everything by yourself.

What do you wish you knew about the Gymnasium application before you applied?

How important it is to maximise your grades during the IGCSE course at BISS, with the Swedish grade probably being the most important. The best gymnasiums are highly competitive, so without good grades it can be difficult to get a place. Also, I sent an email to the school, which helped a lot, I think, so the school sees who I am before my application.

Thank you, Lily, we wish you all the best!
